The Miami HEAT snapped their two-game skid on New Year's Eve, downing the Magic 112-110 in overtime. The HEAT battled back from a halftime deficit and enter the 2013 with a record of 21-8. The HEAT host the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night.

Impact Performance of the Night: LeBron James led the way for the HEAT, scoring 36 points, dishing out 11 assists and grabbing eight rebounds. James dominated in the second half, showing off an array of effective post moves. James score 10 of the HEAT’s 13 points in overtime.

The Deciding Run: Outside of overtime, where the HEAT outscored the Magic 13-11, the deciding run came during the last minute. The Magic went on an 8-4 run to take a four-point lead with just over a minute left. Back to back baskets by Chris Bosh tied the game up and forced overtime. During the last stretch, the HEAT played lockdown defense to give them a chance to win.

Play of the Game: Tonight was an up and down game for Dwyane Wade, but he came up with the play of the game late in overtime. With about 10 seconds left, Hedo Turkoglu leveled Ray Allen with a screen above the three-point line. J.J. Redick saw the play and thought Turkoglu would be open. As he made the pass, Wade flew from the corner, poked the ball ahead and finished with a dunk. It was the perfectly timed gamble, and it all but locked things up for the HEAT.

Efficiency Rating: Offensive Efficiency: 113.8; Defensive Efficiency: 113.8

Trend to Watch: Joel Anthony continues to be a lighting bolt for the HEAT’s defense. In his 13 minutes on the floor, the HEAT outscored the Magic by 13 points. He provided quick rotations, cut off driving lanes and blocked a shot for good measure. Anthony’s ability to contribute in spurts off the bench is important going forward. The HEAT are discovering new options for all kinds of scenarios.

The Takeaway: The HEAT closed 2012 with a win. It wasn’t always pretty, but the HEAT found a way to get the job done. This is as good of a time to reflect on the year that was 2012 as any other. LeBron James won the NBA MVP Award, the HEAT repeated as Eastern Conference Champions and the HEAT were able to take care of business and to raise their second championship banner. As the calendar turns, we can only hope 2013 is as good to the HEAT as 2012 was.

Notes: Dwyane Wade finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Chris Bosh scored 22 points. Udonis Haslem returned to action after missing one game. The HEAT were outrebounded 50-33, but still found a way to win. Josh Harrellson and Dexter Pittman were inactive. Happy New Year.

If the team clearly doesnt want / outmatched in boxing out for rebounds
Spo should start giving Jorts and Lewis minutes instead

Put more emphasis on offense and floor spacing kinda like the Warriors back then

That's not the Heat's identity tho. As long as Riley and Spo and that coaching staff is there they will always be a defensive first type of team. We're not the Warriors.
