The Miami HEAT kept their winning streak alive with a 114-90 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. The HEAT have now won 10 games in a row, five of which have come on the road. Against the 76ers, the HEAT pulled away during the 3rd quarter. The HEAT play their fourth game in five nights tomorrow against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Impact Performance of the Night: Dwyane Wade scored early and often against the Philadelphia 76ers Saturday night. Wade finished the game with 33 points, six rebounds and two assists. Wade made nine shots from outside the paint, picking the 76ers apart with his jumper. Wade eclipsed the 16,000 career points mark in the contest.
The Deciding Run: The HEAT pulled away for good in the third quarter. After the 76ers cut the HEAT lead to five points, the HEAT went on a 20-7 run, opening their lead to 18 points. The 76ers never seriously threatened after that point.
Play of the Game: Late in the third quarter, LeBron James stole the ball from Nick Young. He passed ahead to Norris Cole who returned the favor with a perfect lob. James flushed it home, finishing the vicious alley oop. It’s important to remember that while HEAT alley oops can feel routine, they are most certainly not for the rest of the NBA.
Trend to Watch: Two nights after their best defensive performance of the season, the HEAT followed it up with another strong showing. The 76ers made a handful of contested jumpers early, but the HEAT were forcing them into low-percentage areas all game long. The HEAT were able to force 12 turnovers, which led to 17 points. The HEAT continue to sharpen their defensive skills, which will be important as the season continues.
The Takeaway: The HEAT took care of business on the road, something that had been a bit of a struggle early in the season. With the win, the HEAT have now won five games in a row away from AmericanAirlines Arena. Also, the HEAT were able to close the door early, ensuring that players were able to get significant rest. Tomorrow is the HEAT’s fourth game in five nights, so any respite is welcomed.
Notes: LeBron James recorded a triple double with 16 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Chris Bosh scored 14 points. Mario Chalmers finished with 14 points, six assists and three steals. Norris Cole and Ray Allen combined for 24 points off of the bench.
Defense is rounding into form, which is bad news for the rest of the league. With WADE getting healthy and LEBRON playing on another planet, MIAMI is putting themselves in prime position for another epic run. Great win,now on to the Cavs. Keep the streak going...TEAM HEAT since '88!
